Guide to Remote Learning.
Our classes have returned to full-time education following the Covid 19 closures in 2021. Although we hope that the majority of our children will now have an uninterrupted experience, there is the possibility that an individual child, a class bubble, or indeed the whole school, will need to self-isolate for a period of time. We have therefore put in place a plan for remote learning so that all children can continue with their education.

How will remote learning be delivered?
We will use Google Classroom and email to communicate with you and your child, set work, give feedback and post links to any online learning videos.

Your child will be expected to spend a similar amount of time completing their home learning as they would spend learning in school.

What if my child needs to isolate?
Should any child need to enter a period of isolation we have a pack of learning resources which can be accessed at home immediately. These are linked to the current curriculum and updated weekly so your child will be covering the same learning as the rest of the class. This is particularly important in the core subjects of English and Maths.
The class teacher will also use Google Classroom to check on your child regularly. This will be a chance to ask ask any questions about the home learning.
What if the class or whole school goes into lockdown?
In the event of lockdown you will find learning will be accessible from your child’s Google Classroom year-group page.
There will be links to many online lessons provided by The Oak National Academy. Each lesson is an hour-long. They’re delivered by a teacher, with a pre-recorded video as well as quizzes, worksheets and creative activities. It’s all easy to use, there’s no login or password, and you can access the lessons on any device- pupils only need materials they can find at home.
You will also find daily pre-recorded Maths lessons provided by White Rose. Using White Rose maths, children will be guided to the appropriate year group they are in and to one of the topics available. They then select a lesson to complete; this includes a video and subsequent questions
In addition to this your child’s teacher will make daily contact, providing guidance around the work set for that day via Google Classroom. This will help for lessons where we have posted our own online learning. Ideally this contact will be via a daily whole class zoom session, but may be an online message depending on in-school teaching commitments.
How will the work be marked?
Your child will be able to evaluate their learning, and send and receive feedback via Google Classroom
Alternatively, work that children complete on paper can be kept safe and returned to school when safe to do so.
What if I don’t have access to a computer?
If a child does not have access to a computer/laptop and/or the internet, the school will do all it can to support children. Where funding can be accessed, remote devices (eg, laptops) and/or 4G connections will be sought, particularly for disadvantaged children. Parents will be reminded to make the school aware of any barriers to accessing remote learning.
How much should my child do each day?
Guidance states that children could complete a “core” learning day and we will provide learning that covers subjects across the curriculum.
Your child’s teacher will notify them as to how much is expected each day but a guide would be Maths, Reading, Writing task and two other subjects.
How will my child keep in touch with his/her peers?
In the event of lockdown each class will have a weekly whole class Zoom catch up with their teacher and learning support assistant. This will be a chance to all stay in touch and discuss how they are finding the learning, lockdown and any other matters they wish to share. This is in addition to daily contact via Google classroom.
Pupils identified as vulnerable will be contacted by the Deputy Head on a weekly basis and support offered as necessary.
